Maundy Thursday recalls the last night that Jesus spent with his disciples before his arrest and death (Mark 14: 12-72, Matthew 26: 17-75, Luke 22: 7-65, John 13: 1 - 18: 27).
Westminster remembers this story through a service at which we share a potluck supper, take communion, are cleansed with water, and read passages from Scripture that walk us through the events of Jesus’ last night – as each Scripture passage is read, a candle is extinguished, until we are in darkness: this kind of service, known as a Tenebrae service, traces its origins as far back as the 9th Century C.E.
At 5:00 pm, please join us for a potluck dinner in the auditorium, followed by a Tenebrae communion service at 5:30 pm.
